THE SAAS-FEE RIDE

First run in 2003 as a summer event, the Saas-Fee Ride began as a social event and friendly competition for young free skiers. The combination of some of Europe’s best glacier summer ski terrain and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere made the premiere event a good base for the future of the event. Additionally, the good vibe and respect within the competing skiers and spectators alike made for an even bigger better event in the summer 2004.

In 2005 the event had become a social event as well as a spectator showcase with some awesome freestyle action in the Big Air and Half Pipe and a Rail Jam session to end.  The 2006 event managed to receive over 400 hours of television broadcast time proving that a European summer freestyle event can capture the moment like any winter event and show the general public where freestyle skiing is at right now.

The other goal of the 2006 event was to give the athletes extra exposure in a time when not many people from the media are thinking about skiing.  It did this and with the TV time gave the athletes something to report back to their sponsors about.

The Saas-Fee Ride 07 took the summer snowpark of Saas-Fee to another level with the best freestyle action yet.  All the footage was captured and not only was a 24 minute TV programme produced, but also new media broadcasts such as a downloadable IPOD version and a Mobile Phone downloadable version.  Over 8,000 people downloaded these and yet more exposure was created for the riders.

The Saas-Fee Ride is not an invitational event; the disciplines are open to accomplished aspiring skiers that are eager to compete with the pros and sponsored riders. We believe that it is important to encourage the development of our up-and-coming athletes and to give them the exposure and experience they need to maximise their talents.

Video clips and images of the event from its birth until now are available in the gallery, and are evidence of the success. We hope to see you there this summer!
